Early targeting shooting drills

I love passing on great advice. As a coach and player, I am on YouTube a lot looking for ways to improve. With that in mind, here is one such video that has helped me and my players.

Click to watch the video below, which should start at 1:18 to skip the ads.

Key points:

  1. Early targeting - get eyes on the rim just before you start your shooting motion.

  2. Nose over toes - deep range comes from power generated by your hip, bend knees and flex hips so leaning forward

  3. Bring the ball to your shot line - snap the ball to your shot line before starting shootings motion.

Drills in this video

  1. One dribble and pull-up: catch with one hand, pound dribble, pull ball to shot line while getting eyes on hoop, then shoot.

  2. Foot jab fake and pull-up: in-and-out dribble, jab step, eyes up to hoop and pull to shot line while stepping back into jumper.

  3. Double BTL dribble and scissor step back: BTL dribble twice, hang dribble while stepping back and getting eyes on the rim, shoot.

Watch the video for all the details. I don’t get paid to advertise his stuff, I just like it.
